Dickie "Dick" Gordy

Dickie R. “Dick” Gordy, 73, a resident of Bettendorf, died Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at UnityPoint Trinity Bettendorf.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 21, 2016 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Bettendorf. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Davenport. Visitation will be on Thursday, October 20th from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John Vianney Catholic Church for Backpacks with Snacks.

Born on December 30, 1942 in Davenport, Dick was the son of Carl and Luella (Followwill) Gordy. On February 27, 1965 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Davenport, he married Rosemary Pauli.

Dick worked at Alcoa for over 42 years as a general mechanic. He was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, United Steel Workers Local 105 Union, American Legion Post #26, Oak Hills Gun Club and the Elks Lodge. Dick was inducted in the AFLCIO Hall of Fame in 2004. He served as chairperson of Pleasant Valley High School Multi-Occupations Advisory Committee.

Dick enjoyed “flipping” property and cars, fishing, crossword puzzles and antiques, for which he was an avid breweriana collector. He cherished his time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Rosemary; daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Dean Sams of Davenport; grandchildren, Courtney and Mitchell; great-grandson, Keaten; and one sister, Jane (Dale) Buesing of Davenport.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Dona and Katherine; and one brother, Carl.
