Dolores Darlene Goettsch, 79, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Saturday, April 02, 2011 at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf following a brief illness.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. Burial will follow at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a donation to the Friends of the Bettendorf Park Foundation or the Clarissa Cook Hospice House.
She was born July 12, 1931 in Davenport, Iowa the daughter of Henry & Elizabeth (LaFrentz) Peters. On June 4, 1955, she was united in marriage to Herbert D. Goettsch in Davenport.
Dolores was a devoted wife, a loving mom and beloved grandmother to her family. In the years prior to her marriage to Herb, she worked in the corporate office of the former Hickey Brothers Cigar Store in Davenport. Following her marriage, she devoted her life to caring for her family & home and also was the bookkeeper for the family business, H & H Car Care & Towing of Bettendorf.
Her memberships included the American Legion Auxiliary where she was a past-president and St. James Lutheran Church of Bettendorf. Over the years, she was active in PTA, the Cub Scouts, the Brownie Scouts and the Bettendorf Youth Baseball Program. During the flood of 1965, she was a member of the “Flood of 1965 Team” serving coffee and other refreshments along the levy from the youth baseball snackmobile.
Among the things she enjoyed were gardening, playing golf and spending many comfortable winters snowbirding with her husband in Florida.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband of 55 years, Herb; her daughter, Sherri (John) Voelliger of Bettendorf; her son, Craig (Vicky) Goettsch of Bettendorf; her grandchildren, Ashley Voelliger, Stephanie Goettsch and Tim Goettsch; her brother, Henry (Luella) Peters of McCausland, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends.
Her son, Herbie Goettsch and her parents preceded her in death.
