Don F. Deaver, 82, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at the Kahl Home in Davenport, Iowa.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, January 4, 2015 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 12:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, January 5, 2015 at Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Kahl Home.
Don was born May 20, 1932 in Springfield, Missouri, the son of Don Albert and Edith (Montgomery) Deaver. On November 26, 1960, he was united in marriage to Sharon Yvonne Leigh in Kirksville, Missouri. She preceded him in death on April 30, 2008.
He graduated from Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville with a Master’s Degree in Education. While in college, he was a member of the Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity.
During the Korean Conflict, Don served in the U.S. Air Force. Upon his honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.
Don was employed as a guidance counselor at Bettendorf Middle School until retiring in 1994. After retirement, he worked for a landscaping company and was a newspaper carrier for the Quad-City Times. He was an avid jogger and a member of the Corn Belt Running Club. He also enjoyed working out at the Life Fitness Center.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Cherie Boydston of Davenport and Teresa (Mark) Mapes of Bettendorf; his son, Bryan Deaver of Bettendorf; his grandchildren, Meikel David Boydston Jr. and Natasha Boydston; four great-grandchildren; his sister, Nancy (Richard) Hillyard of Leon, Iowa; his brother, Joel Wesley (Helen) Deaver of Knoxville, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his wife, Don was preceded in death by his brother, David Deaver; and by his parents. Don will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
