Donald Leroy Frantz, 66, a resident of Davenport, Iowa and Naguabo, Puerto Rico passed away Thursday, December 9, 2010 at his Davenport residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, December 17, 2010 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Pleasant Valley, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the Mesothelioma Foundation.
Donnie was born February 4, 1944 in Davenport, Iowa the son of Lester William and Agnes Marie (Bernauer) Frantz. He was united in marriage to Shari Cole on November 5, 2006 in Davenport.
He was a 1962 graduate of Bettendorf High School and went on to serve various industrial apprenticeships during his career.
Donnie was a working engineer, a boilermaker and was the president of Corrosion Control Service and Tropical Beach Investment Company. He began his career at Farley Nuclear Power Plant in Dothan, Alabama in 1974. He finished his career there thirty-six years later on May 25, 2010 on doctor’s orders.
He was a member of the Boiler Maker Union, Local 83, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE), the Midwest Funny Car Association and the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA).
Donnie was a husband and loving father who enjoyed working, wrestling (placing four times at the state level), drag racing and he was a gentleman farmer who attended many farm sales and auctions.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Shari Cole, Naguabo, Puerto Rico; his daughter, Jennifer Christin Frantz, Bettendorf; his sons, Ronald Dean Frantz Sr., Bettendorf, Nicholas Allen Frantz, LeClaire, Iowa and Todd Michael Frantz, Naguabo, Puerto Rico; his grandsons, Ronald Dean Frantz Jr., Eldridge, Iowa, and Jacob Donald Lund, Bettendorf; his favorite granddaughter, Abby Christine Frantz, Eldridge; his sisters, Dorothy Marie (Frantz) Roelandt, Clinton, Arkansas, Donna Mae (Frantz) Price, Choctaw, Arkansas, Marlene Kay (Frantz) Burke, Davenport and Patricia Ruth Frantz, Little Rock, Arkansas; and his brothers, Edward Robert Frantz, Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, Richard Lee Frantz, Moline, Illinois and Clifford Harold Frantz, Canton, Texas.
Donnie was a friend to everyone and his comradely will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joyce Ann.
