Donald H. Stender, 85, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Manor Care Health Services in Davenport.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Davenport Memorial Park where military honors will be conducted.  Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, Iowa.  Memorials may be made to the family.

He was born in Davenport on November 28, 1930, the son of Henry and Emma (VonHoldt) Stender.  In 1951, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Korea during the Korean Conflict.  In 1953, he received his honorable discharge from the Marines.

On October 26, 1962, he was united in marriage to Natalie J. Armstrong in LeClaire, Iowa.

Before his retirement, Don was employed in maintenance at Northpark Mall in Davenport.  In earlier years, he worked for the Eldridge Telephone Company, was a self-employed carpenter with his father, was a bin supervisor for the United States Department of Agriculture and a truck driver for International Telephone & Telegraph.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #26 of Davenport and in his spare time enjoyed woodworking and in earlier years, fishing.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Natalie; his daughter, Pamela (John) Cook of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; his grandchildren, Jennifer (William) Gill, Alexander Cook and Cassandra Cook; and his great-grandchildren, Jaydon Gill, Abigail Gill, Kamren Hippensteel, Kaleb Hippensteel and Harmony Cook

He was preceded in death by his great-granddaughter, Kelsey Hippensteel; and by his parents.
