Donald Jones

Donald L. Jones, 81, of Eldridge, died Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 7, 2013 at Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.  Burial will be held in Rock Island National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society.

Don was born March 24, 1932 in Mesa, Arizona, the son of Lloyd & Margaret (Downing) Jones.  He served in the United States Air Force where he met his wife, Janet M. Rorick, also in the Air Force, and they were married on July 24, 1955 at March Air Force Base in Riverside, California.

Don was a carpenter & contractor for many years.  He had served as a building inspector for the city of Bettendorf for twenty-six years.  He enjoyed golfing and was well known on area bowling leagues.  Don was a ‘Jack-of-All-Trades’ and could always fix anything around his house.  He loved to teach others and was a mentor for many before it was popular.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Janet; his daughters, Toni (Mark) Wamsley of Davenport and Tracy Eagleson of Davenport; his son, Tim Jones of Eldridge; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; and six brothers & sisters.
