Donald E. Langan, 75, a resident of LeClaire, Iowa died on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa following an extended illness.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Davenport where he was a member. He will be laid to rest at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Monday at the church. Additional visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Clarissa Cook Hospice House or Trinity Lutheran Church. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
He was born November 25, 1936 in Cedar Rapids, Nebraska, the son of Ellwood & Regina (Krings) Langan and was a graduate of Marengo (Illinois) High School. On March 20, 1954, he was united in marriage to Joan M. Eicksteadt in Huntley, Illinois.
Don opened the Carpetland Store on Brady St. in Davenport in 1971. After selling the store to his son, he later opened the Ben Franklin Craft Store in Davenport in 1992 and in Moline, Illinois in 1994. Don ultimately retired in 1996 and enjoyed the quieter times he could spend with his beloved family. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed traveling. In addition, he loved to read, enjoyed playing golf and going fishing.
In addition to the church, he was a former member of the North Scott Rotary and Park View Lutheran Church of Park View, Iowa. Don was a devout Christian, loved the Lord and was active in church activities over the years.
Those left to honor his memory include his beloved wife of 58 years, Joan; his daughters, Debbie (Scott) Larsen of Waukesha, Wisconsin and Coleen (Don) Keller of Bettendorf; his sons, Mike (Sandy) Langan of Eatonton, Georgia, Patrick Langan of Davenport & his close & special friend, Amy Reyes and Shawn (Janelle) Langan of Bettendorf; fifteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; his brothers, Ken (Dianne) Langan of Alma Center, Wisconsin, Doug (Helen) Langan of Chillicothe, Illinois, David (Barb) Langan of Onalaska, Wisconsin and Kevin (Pat) Langan of Marengo, Illinois; along with many other relatives and wonderful friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
