Donald Nigh

Donald H. Nigh, 97, a resident of LeClaire, Iowa, died Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.

Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Tuesday. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 15th at Hamilton Cemetery in rural Modena, MO. Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice or your local hospice provider.

Donald was born on February 16, 1920 in Mercer County, Missouri, the son of Eddie Clarence “Bud” and Opal Beatrice (Hamilton) Nigh. On September 16, 1939 in Gallatin, MO, he married Norma Jean Bain. She preceded him in death on July 29, 2014.

Donald served his country in the United States Army during World War II from 1945 – 1946. He worked as a farmer and later for Central Engineering for 30 years. Donald enjoyed quail hunting, golf and gardening. He cherished his time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Those left to honor his memory include two daughters, Jody (Jerry) Arguello of LeClaire and Joan Fenn of Columbiaville, MI; son, Jerry (Lora) Nigh of Delmar, IA; five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren with one on the way; sisters, Shirley Renfro of Colfax, Iowa and Helen Bosley of Shenandoah, Iowa; brothers, W.H. Nigh of Gary, Indiana and Dewayne Nigh of Kansas City, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren; one great-great grandson; a daughter-in-law; one brother and one sister.
