Donald Tillberg

September 19, 1935 — March 14, 2015

Donald Robert Tillberg, 79, a resident of Davenport, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport.

Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial with military honors will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Thursday. Memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors.

Born on September 19, 1935 in Omaha, Nebraska, Don was the son of A. Elof and Pauline (Nicks) Tillberg. On May 15, 1982, he married Alma Prine.

Don served his country in the United States Army from 1955-1958 where he was stationed in Newfoundland. Don was a railroad car man for 42 years, working on the Rock Island, Milwaukee and Soo Lines.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge and Eagles Lodge in Davenport. Don enjoyed woodworking and was an avid outdoorsman. He farmed in his earlier years. Don loved to socialize and had a great knowledge of history.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Alma; children, Lissa Berhenke of Rock Island and Donald Robert Tillberg, Jr. of Corpus Christi, Texas; step-children, Shirley (Doug) Howard of Donie, Texas, Terry (Evelyn) Hough of Des Moines, Washington and Barb (David) Blunt of Moline; ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; brothers, Paul Tillberg of Bettendorf and Larry (Annette) Tillberg of Port Byron; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
