A very special limb has fallen from our Westphal family tree, but now we have a special guy angel watching over you and me!
Donald John Westphal, 85, of Eldridge, Iowa, left this world on Monday, June 26, 2017 to go up to heaven above, he is now in a far better place and he is sending us all his love!
Roland & LeAnn (Woelke) Westphal brought their first-born son Donald John Westphal into this world on May 25, 1932. He was called to serve in the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict, saluting our Red, White & Blue.
He married Viola Marie Kundel on September 10, 1955 – (so they were married for 61 great years!) They rode the Amazing Roller-Coaster of Life with love, fun, laughter and tears!
Don & Vi Westphal worked hard on the farm and they had three kids: Connie, Donna and Darryl Lee. Don was very happy and mighty proud of his wonderful family!
Through the past 35 years, Laughlin, Nevada is where they stayed and played to get out of the cold and snow, Don enjoyed his family, friends, cards, dancing, traveling, fishing, gardening, mowing - overflow!
Don was the best son, brother, hubby, dad, uncle, grandpa, great-grandpa and friend to oh so many! He always had a smile on his face and lit up a room - just like a shiny new penny!
Don was thrilled to get to go to Washington D.C. on the Honor Flight trip in 2013 – what a highlight to see! To look back on memories, pay tribute to all those who served and be thankful we live in the Land of the Free!
He belonged to the Eldridge American Legion Post 639, The Elks, Faith Lutheran Church, The Moose, Rural Married Couples, Scott County Beef Producers, Walcott Community Club and he just loved to have fun!
He is now spending time with friends and family that went before him – especially Dalton, his grandson!
Don is survived by his wife Vi; his daughters, Connie & Tom Huntley of Andalusia, Illinois and Donna & Jim Gruenhagen of Davenport; his son, Darryl Westphal of Eldridge; And here’s the rest of the leaves hanging on the family tree who will miss him dearly: his grandchildren, Rod (Tara) Huntley of Milan, Illinois, Rory (Mandi) Huntley of Topeka, Kansas, Holly Huntley of Phoenix, Arizona, Blair (Patrick) Pieczynski of Davenport, Stacy (Willard) Mott of Neponset, Illinois, Shawna Westphal of Kansas City, Kansas and Dalton Lee Westphal who passed away on August, 22, 2009; his great-grandchildren, Logan, Colin, Payten, Evan, Elleri, Otto, Harper and Warren; his brother, Bob (Marleen) Westphal of Davenport; and his sister, Mary (Jim) Lincoln of Walcott, Iowa.
In addition to his grandson, Dalton Lee Westphal, Don was preceded in death by his parents, Roland & LeAnn Westphal.
Chambers Funeral Home of Eldridge is assisting the family with arrangements.
