Donald J. Williams, 93, of Bettendorf passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Memorials may be directed to Grand River Community Center, in care of Mary Stogdill, 13989 110th Ave. Grand River, IA 50108.
Donald was born on May 5, 1931 in Adams Co., Iowa, the son of Clyde and Chassie Williams. Following his graduation from Nodaway High School, he attended Omaha Bible Institute. Donald worked in environmental services at various hotels and hospitals in the western United States, as well as locally at the former St. Luke’s Hospital in Davenport. He was a member of the National Executive Housekeepers Association and the Chord Busters. In his early years, he enjoyed singing and playing basketball and baseball. Donald was a skilled woodworker and took great pride in making unique canes.
Those left to honor his memory are his wife of 59 years, Nancy Williams of Bettendorf; children, Rita (Brian) Martin of LeClaire, Marleta (Terry Sexton) Foster of California, Vicki (Terry) Stump of California, Christine Johnson of Nevada, and Tim (Maria) Williams of Oregon; 12 grandchildren, including Elizabeth (Jacob) Irwin and Bradley (Colleen) Martin; 22 great-grandchildren, including Jack and Colin Irwin; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his foster parents, E.C. “Ted” & Grace Kennedy; siblings, Delores Gottsch, Dorothy Gray Tucker, Darlene Johnson Mahan, and Clyde Williams; grandson, Brandon Johnson; and nephew, Gary Williams.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Unity Point Palliative Care and Unity Point Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion.
