Donald D. Zinger, 90, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Monday, August 29, 2011 at the Bettendorf Healthcare Center.

His funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel of Bettendorf. He will be laid to rest at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home where a family rosary will be recited at 7:30 P.M.. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, St. Anthony’s Catholic Church or the Scott County Humane Society.

He was born July 22, 1921 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Charles G. & Edith B. (Hinkle) Zinger and was a 1939 graduate of Davenport High School. Don was married in 1948 and later divorced.

In early years, Don farmed the family farm in Bettendorf. Later he was employed at the former Downing’s Dairy in Bettendorf, retiring in 1977 after 30 years of service. Following his retirement, he worked as a mail & food driver for the Pleasant Valley School System for 8 years, retiring in 1986.

He was a former member of the Davenport Moose and the Moline Elks. Wherever there was a euchre game, you could usually find Don. He loved playing euchre and made many friends over the years playing cards.

Those left to honor his memory include his sister, Mildred Conklin of Bettendorf; his nieces & nephews, Lynda (Bill Cardiff) Kuehn of Davenport, Tom (Orba) Zinger of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Mike Zinger of Davenport and Michelle (Jon) Curtis of Pleasant Valley; and many great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and wonderful friends.

Don was preceded in death by his son, Greg Zinger in 1979, an infant son; an infant daughter; and his brother, Leonard Zinger on January 2, 2011.
