Donald D. “Doc” Derrickson, 75, a resident of Buffalo, Iowa died on Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus following a sudden illness.
His funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, November 27, 2006 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, Iowa. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Buffalo where military honors will be conducted by the Blue Grass American Legion Post 711. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
Doc was born June 12, 1931 in Polk County, Iowa. On January 5, 1968, he was united in marriage to Marie K. Kaucher at Calvary Lutheran Church in Buffalo.
He was employed by the Town of Buffalo for 20 years, retiring in 1994.
During the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S. Army with the 18th Engineer Battalion in Germany. In 1954, he was honorably discharged as a Private First Class.
Doc was a 47-year member of the Blue Grass American Legion Post 711. In addition, he served on the Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department for 13 years and was named an Honorary Lifetime Volunteer Fireman.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Marie; his daughter, Kelly (Louie) Sheffler of Buffalo; his sons, Rich (Tessa Beamer) Derrickson of Buffalo and Kevin Derrickson of Waterloo, Iowa; three step-grandsons and two step-granddaughters.
