Donald E. Todd, 76, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Monday, May 4, 2009 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa following a sudden illness.
Masonic funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, May 8, 2009 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. Burial with military honors will take place at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children or the Quad-City Animal Welfare Center in Milan, Illinois.
Don was born January 23, 1933 in Ansley, Nebraska, the son of Franklin Earl & Della Mae (Henderson) Todd. He was a graduate of Kearney (Nebraska) High School and the University of Nebraska with a degree in business. On April 24, 1953, he was united in marriage to Kathryn E. Olson in Robbinsdale, Minnesota.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged on October 5, 1959.
Don began his career with the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in Lincoln, Nebraska. As he moved up the ranks, he worked in Cary, Illinois, Saint Marys, Ohio and finally in Bettendorf where he retired as a major account executive after 33 years of faithful service. Following his retirement, he owned & operated A/C Lock Service of Bettendorf, a business that is now operated by his daughter.
He entered the Masonic order in 1964 in the Liberty Lodge #300 of Lincoln, Nebraska. He later joined Hamilton Lodge #664 in Bettendorf where he was a faithful member and past-master. In addition, he was a member of the Fort St. Joe, Florida Masonic Lodge. His memberships also included the Scottish Rite, Valley of Moline, the Kaaba Shrine of Davenport and the Hi-Twelve Club.
Don was a man of many talents and interests. He was an accomplished sailor and was designated as a Master Gardener by the Scott County Extension Service. The City of Bettendorf also utilized his services and their Sidewalk Inspector where he kept track of needed repairs and replacements of local sidewalks.
Those left to honor his memory include his beloved wife, Kathryn; his daughters, Donna Jean Todd of Saint Marys, Ohio, Cheryl Ann Todd of Uniopilis, Ohio and Tracy Jane Todd of East Moline, Illinois; his son, Craig Michael Todd of Fairborn, Ohio; his granddaughters, Megan Elizabeth Hromish & Krista Marie Hromish; his sister, Patricia “Pat” (Dick) Hartman of Grand Island, Nebraska; and his brother, Harold “Buzz” (LuAnn) Todd of North Loup, Nebraska.
His sister, Gwen Polka and his brothers, Frank, Clifford & Ralph Todd preceded him in death.
