Donald J. Waddell, 72, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport, Iowa.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, September 6, 2008 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home. Additional services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at St. Stanislaus Church in Duncan, Nebraska. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Duncan. Memorials may be made to the family.
He was born March 23, 1936 in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Jesse & Augusta (Krelle) Waddell. On June 7, 1958, he was united in marriage to Elaine Marie Eller in Columbus, Nebraska.
Don was employed in marketing with the Burlington-Northern Railroad for 33 years, retiring in 1995.
He enjoyed fishing and was an avid bridge player where he had attained the Bronze Life Master designation. Don attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha and remained a dedicated fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. “GO BIG RED!” His likes were many; however, he hated bowling and bingo!
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Elaine; his daughters, Jean Waddell of Davenport and Patricia (Joe) Pairitz of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; his sons, Robert Waddell of Davenport, Brian (Susan) Waddell of Portland, Oregon and Steven (Cyndi) Waddell of Centralia, Washington; his grandchildren, Jasmin & her husband, Paul, Matthew & his wife, Erica, Heather, Emily, Timothy, Kelly, Andrew & Benjamin; his great-grandchildren, Brooke & Vashawn; and his sisters, Mary Alice (Paul) Krecji and Jean Waddell, both of Omaha, Nebraska.
His brother, Charles and his parents preceded him in death.
