Donald J. (Jim) Luttenegger, 76, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Monday, September 22, 2008 at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.
His funeral service will be held at 11:30 A.M. Friday, September 26, 2008 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church of Bettendorf where he was a member. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf where a prayer service will be held at 4:00 P.M. Thursday. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church or the American Heart Association.
He was born February 23, 1932 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Carl & Minnie (Herzog) Luttenegger. On February 12, 1957, he was united in marriage to JoAnn E. Mertens in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.
Jim retired in 1994 following a 35-year career with the Alcoa Company.
In addition to the church, he was a member of the Evergreen 50 Plus Club of Our Lady of Lourdes, the United Steel Worker’s Union Local #105, the American Legion Post 154 of Bettendorf and the Quad-City Plus-60 Club.
Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1956.
Among the things he enjoyed were traveling, camping, fishing, gardening, the out-of-doors and spending time with his beloved family.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, JoAnn; his sons, Michael (Marilyn) Luttenegger of Lees Summit, Missouri, Thomas (Susan) Luttenegger of Richfield, Minnesota, Steven Luttenegger of Bettendorf and Scott Luttenegger & his partner, Squire Dahl of Seattle, Washington; and his grandchildren, Julia, Jacob, Nathan, Nicole & Zach.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Mary & Helen; and his brothers, Edwin, Harold & John.
