Donald L. “Rebel” Gill, 71, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died Wednesday, February 18, 2004 at Trinity at Terrace Park.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, February 21, 2004 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park where military honors will be conducted. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
He was born December 5, 1932 in Powersville, Missouri, the son of Lloyd D. & Orpha (Pollock) Gill. On September 20, 1952, he was united in marriage to Phyllis a. Scott in Powersville.
Don was employed by Case Fleet as a truck driver, retiring on July 31, 1996 after more than 40 years with the company.
During the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1955.
He was a member of the Hamilton Masonic Lodge #664 of Bettendorf and was an accomplished auto mechanic. He kept his cars in top shape and was always ready to lend a hand to his family and friends when car problems arose.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Phyllis; his daughters & sons-in-law, Sheila & Mike Marolf, Cheryl & Don Trimble and Theresa & Lt. Col. Michael Patten; his grandchildren, Mike, Kamiel, Brock, Kimberly, Rachel, Nicole, “Eddie” and Luke; and his sister, Joy Varner Miller.
Don was preceded in death by his brothers, Fred, Leo & Johnny.
