Donald L. Hazen

Donald L. Hazen Sr., 80, a resident of Davenport, Iowa and Yuma, Arizona died on Sunday, January 8, 2005 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 11, 2005 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf, Iowa. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
He was born April 18, 1925 in Davenport, the son of Alvia & Genevieve (Hauser) Hazen. On July 16, 1977, he was united in marriage to Judie L. (Creighton) Wogomon in Davenport.
Don was employed as a truck driver for USF Holland Motor Express for many years, retiring in 1988.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy with the Mediterranean Fleet and during the Normandy Invasion. Upon his honorable discharge in 1945, he was awarded the Bronze Battle Star, the Good Conduct Medal as well as several other medals & ribbons.
His memberships included the American Legion Post 26 of Davenport, AARP and an honorary membership in the Teamsters Union.
During his spare time, he enjoyed playing bingo, golf and watching a good John Wayne movie.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Judie; his daughters, Karen Westervelt of Coal Valley, Illinois and Kathie Lorscheider of Ozark, Missouri; his sons, Donald L. (Deborah) Hazen Jr. of Moline, Illinois, Jeffrey Hazen of Davenport and Shawn H. (Melissa) Wogomon of Davenport; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his sisters, Elizabeth Sperry of Davenport and Darlene Hixon of Peoria, Illinois; and his brother, Chet Hazen of Princeton, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard and Jack; and by his parents.
