Donna Doy Woods, 93, of Geneseo, Illinois and formerly of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Friday, October 7, 2022, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Geneseo.
Her funeral service will be held at 12:00 P.M on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1809 Mississippi Blvd. in Bettendorf where she was a faithful member. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. Thursday at the church. A luncheon will immediately follow the service at the church. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Geneseo following the luncheon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church or to the Angel Fund.
Donna Jean Mitchell was born in Galva, Illinois on April 24, 1929, to Enos and Eunice (Collinson) Mitchell and graduated from Galva Schools, Class of 1946. Donna attended AIC in Davenport, Iowa. She worked for the Superintendent of Galva schools for 3 years.
Donna and Willard Doy were married on October 10, 1948, in Kewanee, Illinois and had five children. After 24 years of marriage, she was widowed on May 27, 1973.
She worked at the Geneseo Telephone Company for 27 years where she made many lifelong friends and retired on August 1, 1992.
Donna married John “Jack” Woods on August 12, 1977, in Geneseo. His 3 adult children and their families were welcomed into the fold. After 31 years of marriage, Jack passed away on September 13, 2008.
Donna was blessed with two long and happy marriages that created a large, blended family of 8 children, 15 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. She was very active in her church, serving as Communion Steward, was a member of the United Methodist Women and Bible Study.
Her memberships included the Red Hat Society and the Geneseo Moose. She enjoyed dancing (#1), gardening, traveling, golfing, and lunching with friends. She played and taught piano, won State with her accordion, and loved ballroom dance, especially the waltz. She followed the Big Bands at the Col Ballroom in Davenport and traveled to follow them with her many dance friends. Donna met monthly with her Galva Class of 1946 classmates from their 50th class reunion right up until their 72nd reunion. She treasured her friends and family and will be forever missed by all.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Dan (Tonia) Doy of Alpha, Illinois, Teresa (Dennis) Wheeler of New Port Richey, Florida, David (Lynn) Doy of Lynn Center, Illinois, Beth (Ed) Casel of Moline, Illinois, Brian (Becca) Doy of Inverness, Florida, Michael (Catherine Alexander) Woods of Davenport, Iowa, Pam (Richard) Verrault of Quebec, Canada and Linda (Tom) Rodts of Albany, Illinois her grandchildren, Jason (Kristi) Wheeler, Brett (Valerie) Doy, Krista (Ryan) Keegan, Kurt (Becky) Doy, Lauren Casel, Danielle Casel, Nick (Stephanie) Doy, Chelsea Doy, Zack (Betty) Doy, Kyle Doy, Shawn (Jennifer) Verrault, Tim (Jennifer) Alexander, Jessica (Steve) Miller, Paul (Natalie) Sereda and Melody (Sara) Ellet; and 27 great-grandchildren.
