Dora was born April 19, 1922 in Durant, Mississippi, the daughter of Henry and Bessie (Oliver) McCoy. In 1950 she was united in holy matrimony to Joe Bennett in Chicago, Illinois. He preceded her in death in 1984.
She was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in Gary, Indiana. She was very knowledgeable, and extended her education by attending college in the city of New Orleans, Louisiana.
Dora worked for the Chicago Veterans’ Administration, and gave more then 38 years of service. In 1986 she moved to Davenport, IA. She was a faithful member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Jordan O. Simmons; loving cousins, Alfreda (David) Allen and Minnie Hobbs of Gary, Indiana, James (Mildred) Hudson of Detroit, Michigan, Tommie (Beaulah) Moore of St. Paul, Minnesota; a special and dedicated friend, Pastor William Richard Graves of Davenport and a host of cousins, relations and friends.
Dora was loved by many: the Davenport Lutheran home, her church family at Prince of Peace and many others.
