Doran Chandler

Doran E. Chandler, 70, of Bettendorf, died Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, September 5, 2015 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 7:00 P.M.  Burial will be in Oakdale Memorial Gardens.  Memorials may be made to the family.

Doran was born July 11, 1945 in Bloomfield Iowa, the son of Olen and Hazel (Yates) Chandler. He moved to Bettendorf in the late 1960s to start working for John Deere. He worked at Plow Planter Works, Harvester and Davenport Works throughout his time there. He retired in 2004 after thirty-seven years of employment with John Deere. He made lots of friends and enjoyed standing up for what he felt was right.

His hobbies included lunching with family and friends, bowling with co-workers, boating on his houseboat, bike riding and dancing.

Although he had been retired for eleven years, he was always busy working on something and always there to help anyone who needed it.   It could be said that Doran never met a stranger and always had a hand to lend. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Bernadette Prieto in February of 1980 and they were happily married for 35 years.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Bernadette; his children, Darren (Renae) Chandler of Princeton, Iowa, Jade (Doug) Haag of Lexington, Illinois, Sabrina (Dennis) Chandler of Davenport, Melissa (David) Jimenez of Bettendorf and Dustinn (Chelsea) Chandler of Davenport; thirteen grandchildren; his sister, Shirley Martin of Davenport; and his brother, Don Chandler of Davenport.

Shortly before his death, Doran was able to celebrate his 70th birthday with his family and closest friends. Although his health wasn't great, there was nothing that would have kept him from seeing everyone at least one more time.
