Dorathea "Thea" E. Leclair, of Bettendorf, died Thursday at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus after a brief illness.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Asbury United Methodist Church, Bettendorf.
Thea was born Feb. 27, 1911 on a farm near Cambridge, Illinois, to Arthur and Alice (Hulin) Anderson. She spent most of her childhood in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High School. Thea worked at the Henry County Courthouse before marrying Nelson "Joe" Leclair in Cambridge on April 22, 1934.
She was a long-time member of Asbury United Methodist Church, The Original Music Students Club-Davenport Chapter, and the GW Chapter of P.E.O. She loved to sing and over the years performed many recitals, including "Twilight Musicales" for her 85th and 90th birthdays.
During her husband's military service, they lived in Paris, South America and Washington, D.C. They returned to the Midwest when Col. Leclair became District Engineer of the U.S. Army's Corps of Engineers Office at the Clock Tower Building on Arsenal Island in 1953.
Thea was an avid golfer, a long-time member of the Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club, and competed many years on the Arsenal's Waterman Cup teams.
She was preceded in death by her husband and brother, Russell. Left to honor her memory are her adopted family, Greg and Judy Gackle and their children, Cresston and Ellen, of Bettendorf; Seth (Kim) Gackle, of Moline; nephew Robert Anderson, of Glenview, IL; nieces Paula McCarthy, of Towanda, PA, and Jean Pfeiffer, of Germantown, TN; and her special friends and caregivers Dorothy Samuelson, of Moline; Cheryl Besse, of Erie; and Lisa Honaker, of Moline.
