Doris Jeffrey

Doris Marie Jeffrey, 93, of Orion, died Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Friendship Manor in Rock Island.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Coal Valley. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of mass on Tuesday. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on August 8, 1922 in Grand Forks, North Dakota, Doris was the daughter of Joseph and Eva (Dietz) Bliven. On August 19, 1949 in Grand Forks, Doris married Clifford J. Jeffrey. He preceded her in death on July 8, 1996.

In her earlier years, Doris worked as a welder during World War II. She also worked as a beautician and was the head hostess at Holiday Inn. Doris was a member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church where she was very active in Cursillo. She cherished her time spent with family, especially her grandchildren.

Those left to honor her memory include her sons and their wives, Glenn and Diane of Coal Valley, Illinois, Scott and Rose of McCall, Idaho and Loy and Jane of Northfield, Minnesota; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; brothers, Bill Bliven of Minot, North Dakota and Jerome Bliven of Grand Forks, North Dakota.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Fr. Robert Bliven and three sisters, Gladys, Shirley and Adeline.
