Doris Audrey Elizabeth Herrick, 83, a resident of Pleasant Valley, Iowa died on Friday, April 29, 2005 at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 3, 2005 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf, Iowa. Burial will be in Wapello Cemetery, Wapello, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Scott County Humane Society.
She was born August 26, 1921 in Taunton, Somerset, England, the daughter of William & Rosa (Bickneoo) Buckler. On March 6, 1943, she was united in marriage to William E. Herrick in Taunton. William was serving in the U.S. Army in England when he met Doris and the newly married couple came to the United States aboard the Queen Mary. Throughout the years, Doris remained very proud of her English citizenship & heritage.
She was a devoted homemaker, a loving wife and beloved mom, grandma, great-grandma and great-great-grandma. She & Bill loved to travel and were members of the Davenport Wheel & Canvas Camping Club, the Good Sam Camping Club and the National Travelers Camping Club.
Doris was a wonderful cook and her family will always remember her “famous” pumpkin pies. She loved animals, enjoyed collecting lunch boxes and Aunt Jemima memorabilia. She & Bill were fond of dancing and were avid fans of the Quad-City Mallards.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Bill; her daughter & son-in-law, Carol & Walter Lancaster of York, Pennsylvania; her son & daughter-in-law, Barry & Maria Herrick of East Moline, Illinois; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter who was born on Doris’s birthday; her brothers, Leonard Buckler of London, England and Raymond Buckler in Australia; and many nieces, nephews and other family members in England and Australia.
Doris was preceded in death by her daughter, Ann May Herrick; and by her brother, Paul Buckler.
