Doris Ilene Suiter, 77, a long-time resident of Princeton, Iowa died on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at the Princeton Presbyterian Church where she was a devoted member and served as a deacon and elder. Burial will be in Oakridge Cemetery, Princeton. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Monday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf and from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be made to the family.
She was born June 13, 1932 in Milan, Missouri, the daughter of Carl & Alpha (Carmack) Fanning. She married Walter Huettman in June of 1957. She later married James F. Suiter in Davenport, Iowa on March 19, 1974. He preceded her in death on June 3, 1993.
Doris worked as a cook for Bridges Restaurant and Kernan’s Restaurant, both in Princeton for many years prior to her retirement.
In addition to the church, she was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Rebecca Lodge.
Doris & James enjoyed spending the winter months in Palacious, Texas. She enjoyed spending time with her family & friends, playing cards, baking cookies for her grandchildren and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
Those left to honor her memory include her son, Steven (Sherri) Huettman of Princeton; her daughter, Brenda (Kevan) Barnes of Milan, Illinois; her step-children, Rusty (Gayle) Suiter of LeClaire, Iowa, Rick (Darlene) Suiter of Princeton, James (Danielle) Suiter of Princeton and Tina Harrington of Princeton; her grandchildren, Ashley (Zeke) Elder in Florida, Megan Huettman & her fiancé, Eric Becker of Moline, Illinois, Chad Huettman of Princeton, Paul Huettman of Davenport and Justin Barnes of Davenport; her step-grandchildren, Dorothy (Brian) Gulick of Davenport, Christine Steininger of LeClaire, Kevin (Stacy) Suiter of Donahue, Iowa, Mandy & T.J. Edwards of Moline, James, Joe & Lexi Suiter of Princeton; her great-grandchildren, Zayden & Cobie; her step-great-grandchildren, Colin, Jessica, Christopher, Corey, Elizabeth, Adam, Hope, Jaymeson, Corbin, Kayleigh, Patrick, Gavin & Reese and many extended grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Helen McGuire of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; her niece, Dorothy (Dale) Ganzer of Davenport; and her nephew, Dave (Mary) Fanning of Princeton.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother & sister-in-law, Lee & Ramah Fanning; and a step-grandson, James “J.B.” Suiter.
The family extends a special thanks to the Pastor Matthew Froeschle of Princeton Presbyterian Church, the Clarissa Cook Hospice House and Genesis Medical Center, West Campus.
