Dorothea Mae Swanwick, of Riverdale, Iowa, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2016 surrounded by her loved ones.
Join us as we celebrate with a memorial gathering on Thursday, June 9, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Skellington Manor, 420 18th Street in Rock Island. In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting donations towards a memorial bench on the Duck Creek bike path in Riverdale.
Dorothy retired from Oscar Mayer after 33 years of service. She enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Florida with her husband, Archie where they spent time fishing and relaxing with friends. Dorothy loved to read, take fitness walks on the bike path and spend time gardening. In her earlier days, she loved horseback riding and doing ceramics. Dorothy will be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 36 years, Archie Smith; and sons, Kevin Scott and Casey (Sonia) Swanwick; step-children, Penni (Mike) Steen, Perri (Athena) Smith and Patti (Bill) Bettger; fourteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; fifteen nieces and nephews including very special friend and niece, Joy Duex; and sister Helen Duex.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George W. and Cora Mae Holden; brothers, Everett, Ralph, Lawrence and Glenn Holden; and sister, Mary Tinnian.
