Dorothy Hanna, 81, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died on Friday, April 8, 2011 at Trinity Pathway Hospice in Bettendorf.

A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home and from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to Cedar Memorial Christian Church of Davenport where she was a member or Trinity Pathway Hospice.

She was born May 18, 1929 in Ava, Missouri, the daughter of Otis & Ethel (Simmons) Strong. On May 19, 1955, she was united in marriage to James P. Hanna in Bettendorf. He preceded her in death on June 19, 1986.

Dorothy was employed in the housekeeping department of the former St. Luke’s Hospital in Davenport and later at the Kahl Home and the Clarissa Cook Home, both in Davenport.

Among the things she enjoyed were gardening, caring for her beloved grandchildren & family, crocheting, embroidery and Gospel music.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Sandy (Myron) Linder of Ellensburg, Washington and Debbie (Tim) Wingate of Davenport; her son, Mike (Char) Hanna of LeClaire; her grandchildren, Heather Linder, Megan Linder, Bailey Linder, Joshua (Holly) Hanna, Shawn (Lindsey) Hanna, Preston (Katherine) Hanna Lindsay Wingate, Ryan Wingate, Nick Kitzman and Amy (Kenny) Roberge; eight great-grandchildren; her sister, Rozema Ritter of Bettendorf and a close family friend, Bill Sheffy.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughters, Margie Hanna and Barbara Sue Forest; her sons, Pat Hanna and Basil Hanna, her sister, Pauline Strong; and her brother, Elmer Strong.
