Dorothy J. Kingsbury, 95, a resident of Flagler Beach, FL, formerly of Davenport, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at her home.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 12 Noon until the time of services on Saturday. Memorials may be made to Newcomb Presbyterian Church.
Dorothy was born on June 2, 1919 in Maquoketa, Iowa the daughter of Carl F. and Alvina (Moeller) Schumann. She married Everett L. Kingsbury on April 24, 1942 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport. He preceded her in death in 1993.
Dorothy worked at the WT Grant Co. and the Rock Island Arsenal in the accounting department.
Dorothy was a life-long member of Newcomb Presbyterian Church in Davenport where she served as an Elder and Deacon. She taught Sunday school for many years and belonged to the Ruth Circle and the Friends Group. She was a befriender for the church and also for Genesis Medical Center.
Dorothy worked as a facilitator with the grief recovery group at the East Campus of Genesis Medical Center. She was a volunteer for the Mental Health Center of Scott County for the Outreach program, now the Vera French Center. Dorothy was a charter member of the American Heritage Society. She received the Governor's Volunteer award in 1997. Dorothy and Everett were volunteers for the Salvation Army where they helped cook for many years.
Dorothy was active in scouting and was a Den Mother for Pack 18. She was a charter member of the German American Heritage Society . Dorothy enjoyed collecting antique pottery and dolls.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Les (Nancy) Kingsbury of Florida and Mark (Rosemarie) Kingsbury of Illinois; grandchildren, David M. (Jeanette) Kingsbury, Susan M. (Michael Mastromatteo) Kingsbury, Douglas (Christina) Kingsbury, Jeffrey M. Kingsbury and Brian A. Kingsbury; great-grandchildren, Wade, Matthew, Ella, Ava, Samuel and Isaac; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband; sisters, Bernice, Inez, Rozella; and brothers, Lawrence, Raymond, Arnold and LaVerne.
Dorothy loved her family and they were all very dear to her heart.
