Dorothy Morris

Dorothy Lucille Morris, 92, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at Unity Point Trinity Hospital in Bettendorf.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.  Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in LeClaire, Iowa.  Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.

She was born in Davenport, Iowa on April 11, 1930, the daughter of Owen and Lucille (Huffman) Worton.  On February 15, 1947, she was united in marriage to George Louis Schwerdtfeger in Bettendorf.  She was later united in marriage to Chester H. Morris on October 20, 1990 in Deltona, Florida.  He preceded her in death on December 13, 2008.

Dorothy was a devoted homemaker and mom who was a life-long genealogist, enjoyed painting in oils and acrylics.  In earlier years, she worked at the Wonder Bread Bakery in Davenport and was employed as a waitress.

Those left to honor her memory include her sons, George L. Schwerdtfeger Jr. of Bettendorf, Ronald D. Schwerdtfeger of Muscatine, Iowa, John David Schwerdtfeger of Salem, Oregon and Charles L. Schwerdtfeger of Mission Viejo, California; twelve grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; her sister, Sonja Sherrie Strongstad of Effingham, Illinois; her brothers, Richard Owen Charles Worton of Dufer, Oregon and Owen “Jack” Worton Jr. of Wheeler, Illinois; along with many other relatives and wonderful friends.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda K. Schwerdtfeger; her sons, Thomas W. Schwerdtfeger, Donald G. Schwerdtfeger, Richard C. Schwerdtfeger and Randy S. Schwerdtfeger; her sisters Marilyn Jean Vance and Diana Oden; and her brother, Edwin Jesse Dennis.
