Dorothy M. Whan, 94, a resident of Bettendorf, passed away Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Iowa Masonic Health Facility in Bettendorf.
Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to her family for the benefit of Middle Park in Bettendorf.
Born on February 17, 1920 in Nebraska, Dorothy was the daughter of Oliver and Coy (Kauffman) Smith. On November 26, 1937 in Trenton, MO, she married Frank L. Whan. He preceded her in death on April 10, 1996.
Dorothy was a homemaker and raised three children. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, reading and crossword puzzles. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Dorothy cherished her time spent with her family. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Frank L. (Roberta) Whan, Jr. of Bettendorf, Jean Ann Devor of Lee’s Summit, MO and Vicki (Jack) Davison of LeClaire; five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; one niece and three nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, John and Ollie Smith; a son-in-law, Allen Devor and a nephew, Roger Smith.
Dorothy’s family would like to thank the entire staff at Iowa Masonic Health Facility for the kind and professional care given to Dorothy in her last year of life.
