Dorothy L. Hartz, 79, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died on Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 26, 2008 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Davenport where she was a faithful member. Entombment will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf and one hour before services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Clarissa Cook Hospice House, the American Cancer Society or to Trinity Lutheran Church.
She was born in Hammond, Indiana on January 3, 1929, the daughter of George & Opal (Thomas) Wilson. On October 20, 1956, she was united in marriage to Donald L. Hartz in Davenport.
In earlier years, Dorothy served a church secretary at Newcomb Presbyterian Church of Davenport. From 1952 to 1957, she worked for the Alcoa Company, Davenport Works.
Dorothy formerly served as secretary of the Trinity Lutheran Church congregation; was a member of the Valpariso Guild and of the Anne Ken Chapter of the Izaak Walton League. She was an active Brownie & Girl Scout Leader and participated in the PTA for many years,
Dorothy & Don loved to travel and had visited all fifty states, all of the provinces of Canada, Germany & Austria. She enjoyed her card clubs and was an avid reader. Above all, her beloved family, especially her grandchildren, were the center of her life. She was a generous & giving person and even in the midst of serious illness, remained cheerful, friendly & strong in her faith.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Don; her daughter, Lynne (David) Crews of Davenport; her sons, Terry (Kathryn) Hartz of St. Louis, Missouri and Duane (Sandra) Hartz of Bettendorf; her grandchildren, Rachel Hartz, Matthew Hartz and Megan Crews; her special grandchildren, Sarah Witt & Christine Witt; her best friend of 55 years, Esther Ricketts; her cousins, Jerry, Larry & Wayne Rogers; and many other relatives and beloved friends.
Her brothers, Robert Wilson and Russell Wilson, preceded Dorothy in death.
The family would like to extend their special thanks to Dr. Mario Sy & his staff, Dr. Donald Zaentz, the staff of the Clarissa Cook Hospice House and Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, 6th floor nurses & staff for their professional and compassionate care shown to Dorothy & her family during her illness.
