Dorothy Lynn “Dottie” Sterrett, a resident of Rock Island, Illinois died on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus in Rock Island.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 22, 2008 at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Davenport where she was a member. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Friday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf, Iowa. Memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Cathedral or the American Heart Association.
Dorothy Lynn “Dottie” Cusick Sterrett was born May 14, 1920 at home in Princeton, Iowa to Ethel May (Greenfield) Cusick & Dr. George William Cusick. She grew up in Princeton and later moved to Davenport. Dorothy attended school as St. Katherine’s and graduated from Clinton (IA) High School. She attended McMurray College for Women at Jacksonville, Illinois and later graduated from Augustana College in Rock Island.
She was united in marriage on April 26, 1946 to Theodore R. Sterrett in Davenport, Iowa. To this union one daughter, Lynn Ann was born.
Dorothy was a life-long resident of the Quad-Cities area. She was also a life-long member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Davenport. She was active in many organizations including serving as president of the Rock Island JayCee-ette’s and of the Rock Island Women’s Club. In addition, she was a 50-year member of the Pyramid Temple #10 Daughters of the Nile, a member of King’s Daughters, the Daughters of the Nile and had been a member of Rainbow Girls in her youth.
Throughout her life, Dorothy worked at various jobs in the Quad-City area and retired from Catholic Social Services in Rock Island in 1985. She was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter Lynn & her husband, Dr. Lawrence Hurd of Kansas City, Missouri.
Her parents and a beloved cousin, Norman Cusick, preceded her in death.
