Dorothy M. Schmidt

Dorothy M. Schmidt, 86, a resident of Eldridge, Iowa died on Monday, May 31, 2010 at Crest Health Center in Davenport, Iowa.
Her funeral service will be held at 6:30 P.M. Friday. June 4, 2010 at the Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge, Iowa. Visitation will be 5:00 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Dorothy Schmidt Memorial Fund.
She was born March 29, 1924 in Algona, Iowa, the daughter of Cliff & Viva (Hain) Hoover. On November 26, 1942, she was united in marriage to Gordon K. Schmidt in Algona. He preceded her in death on August 29, 1995.
Following her high school graduation and additional education as a teacher, she taught country school in rural Algona for several years. In 1957, she went to work for the Kossuth County Farm Bureau and remained there until 1969, when she & her husband moved to Wyoming, Minnesota where Dorothy worked as a personal banker for 11 years. They returned to Algona to care for Dorothy’s aging mother and after her death, moved to Texas where they enjoyed several wonderful years until Gordon’s death in 1995 at which time she moved to Eldridge.
Dorothy was an avid fan of the musicians and singers on the Lawrence Welk Show and was formerly an active member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Minnesota, Texas and most recently Eldridge United Methodist Church. She loved to play cards with her many friends and especially treasured the times spent with her beloved family.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Nancy (Scott) Case of Eldridge; her son, Michael Jon (Mary) Schmidt of Houston, Texas; her grandchildren, Angela (Michael) Reese, T.J. (Tara) Case, Kara (Jarrod) Sieben, Richard (Alison) Schmidt and Chris Schmidt; and her great-grandchildren, Madison, Presley & Josie Case, Peyton & Nolan Reese, Cody & Kacy Sieben and Griff Schmidt.
