Dwight D. Cornick, 71, of Bettendorf, died Sunday, December 16, 2012 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Bettendorf Christian Church. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial with military honors conducted by the Vietnam Veterans of America Post 299 will be held in Rock Island National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
Dwight was born July 17, 1941 in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, the son of Harry & Helen (Wolf) Cornick. He attended Mount Pleasant High School and Southeast Community College. Dwight served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict from 1965 to 1966.
He retired from the Rock Island Arsenal as a tool operator in 2003 after 22 years of employment. Dwight was a life member of the V.F.W., D.A.V. and Vietnam Veterans of America. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, horseback riding and spending time with his family.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughters and sons-in-law, Janiece & Tony Goldsberry and Michelle & Eric Malloy of Bettendorf; his son, Darrell Cornick of Salem, Oregon; his grandchildren, Emily Goldsberry, Abby Goldsberry, Nathan Malloy, Nick Malloy and Andria Malloy; his great-grandson, Evan Goldsberry; and his sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce & Art Tedrow of Augusta, Iowa, Darla & Loren Dodd of Charles City, Iowa and Doris Cornick-Brent of Mount Pleasant, Iowa.
Dwight was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, LeAngela Cornick; and his brothers, Ronald & Marvin Cornick.
