Earl Schafer

Earl D. Schafer, 81, of Davenport, died Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Monday, November 6, 2017 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.  Burial will follow at Davenport Memorial Park.

Earl was born March 5, 1936 in Davenport, the son of Earl W. & Mabel E. (Ostenburg) Schafer.  He was employed with the City of Davenport in Sanitation for over 30 years.  He was united in marriage to Wilma “Frannie” LaMar on July 1, 1972 in Davenport.  She preceded him in death on June 28, 2000.

Earl was “Earl the Pearl, King of Karaoke” He enjoyed playing Santa at Christmastime and he also enjoyed working in his yard, gardening and county music.

Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Ellen (Ed) Smith of Cedar Rapids, Dallas Schafer and Leon Scott Schafer, both of Davenport; his grandchildren, Lindsey Coleman, Brittney Trumpold, Benjamin Wardlow, Chad Smith and Christine Smith-Martin; his great grandchildren, McKenzie, Kaitlyn, Josslyn, Finley, Everly, Emily, Allison and Connor; his sisters, LaVonne Little, Sonja Jules-Negus, Shullie Schafer and Dawn White; and his dearest friend, Cathy Jo Bowser of Rock Island.

In addition to his wife, Frannie, Earl was preceded in death by his parents; and his sisters, Janet Jones, Delores Jenkins and Connie Harris.
