Edith Gertz

Edith F. Gertz, 85, of Eldridge, Iowa, died Saturday, March 3, 2012 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Joy Cemetery in Park View, Iowa. Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church of Eldridge or Genesis VNA Hospice.

Edith was born June 10, 1926 in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Charles F. & Jeanette (DeWild) Eggert. She was united in marriage to Fred H. Gertz on November 28, 1947 at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Davenport.

Edith was retired as a registered nurse with the former St. Luke’s Hospital in Davenport. Her memberships included Faith Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 639 in Eldridge. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Fred; her daughters and sons-in-law, Carol & Robert Roe of Long Grove, Iowa and Jeni & Leon Green of Long Grove; her sons, Henry Gertz of Bellevue, Iowa and Richard (Darcy) Gertz of Eldridge; her grandchildren, Justin & Joshua Roe, Nate & Jake Green, Heather Doray, Dana Buesing and Stacy Gertz; nine great-grandchildren; and her brother, Charles F. Eggert of Guttenberg, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Fred Gertz; and her parents.
