Edith Wilmes

Edith Wilmes, 97, a resident of Bettendorf, passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at her home with her daughters and granddaughter in attendance.

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 7, 2015 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice or the Scott County Humane Society.

Born on August 20, 1918 in Bettendorf, Edith was the daughter of Ferdinand and Zdenka (Zatka) Nemluvil. On February 26, 1939, she married Matthew Wilmes. He preceded her in death.

Edith enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers, reading and canning fruits and vegetables.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Gary Wilmes of Kalispell, Montana, Dorothy (David) Swanson of Bettendorf, Judy May (Dave) Wolmutt of Glenn, California and Debbie (Milo) Swigart of Orland, California; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen Johannson of Moscow, Iowa and Katherine Brown of Durant, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Stanley and Fritz; sisters, Rose, Ann and Pauline.
