Edna L. Slater, 80, of Omaha, Nebraska and formerly of Davenport, died Thursday, November 10, 2011 at the Douglas County Health Center in Omaha.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M., Monday, November 14, 2011 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the services on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Westside Assembly of God in Davenport.
Edna was born October 27, 1931 in Mercer, Missouri, the daughter of Lloyd A. & Hazel (Cox) Martin. She was united in marriage to Richard J. Slater on November 28, 1973 in Rock Island, Illinois. He preceded her in death on June 25, 1998.
Edna had been employed at Bishops Restaurant, Happy Joe’s and River King Catering in the Quad-Cities for many years. She was a longtime member of Westside Assembly of God Church in Davenport for many years. Edna enjoyed the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking in earlier years.
Those left to honor her memory include her son and daughter-in-law, Neal Michael & Sonia Woods of Omaha;   her grandchildren, Elizabeth Woods of Long Grove, Iowa and Anthony Woods of Madison, Wisconsin;   her great-grandchildren, Azyre Donahue & Aidan Simpson-Ellis; her sisters, Shirley (Marvin) Vanderpool of Bettendorf and Nora Hayes of Princeton, Missouri; her brothers, Lloyd Jr. (Erma) Martin of Mercer, Eugene Martin of Davenport and Wayne Martin of Mercer; two nieces who very special to her, Carolyn Hoke & Doris Ramos; and many other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Dick, Edna was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Anna Faye McCarty; and her brothers, Clifford, Jim and Murle Dean.
