Edna M. Sweeney, 87, of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Thursday, July 6, 2017 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.
Funeral Services & Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Davenport. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
Edna was born July 4, 1930 in Centerville, Iowa, the daughter of Sherman & Mabel (Fox) Tharp. She was united in marriage to Paul J. Sweeney on June 18, 1955 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on November 17, 2016.
Edna was active in her church with Mount Carmel Circle and also with the Red Hat Society. An avid Chicago Cubs fan, she enjoyed knitting and gardening. Edna also enjoyed cooking and hosting family gatherings over the years.
She will be deeply missed by her daughter, Maureen (Martin) Quick of Davenport; her sons, Thomas (Carolyn) Sweeney of Rockville, Virginia, David (Cynthia) Sweeney of Durant, Iowa, Kevin (Michelle) Sweeney of Long Beach, California and Terry (Stephanie) Sweeney of Davenport; her grandchildren, Michael, Patrick, Tara, Reilly, Logan, Benjamin, Jayde and Timothy; her great-grandchildren, Aran and Eli; and her sister, Pat Ikuta of Appleton, Wisconsin.
In addition to her husband, Edna was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Bette Tharp; and her brothers, Robert and Charles Tharp.
