Edna D. Smith, 89, a resident of the Iowa Masonic Health Facility of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Monday, December 15, 2008 at the health facility.
An Order of the Eastern Star service and her funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 20, 2008 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery, Davenport, Iowa. Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation, the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children or the Iowa Masonic Health Facility.
She was born January 16, 1919 in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Herman & Anna (Mollen) Henderkott. On March 31, 1948, she was united in marriage to Charles B. Smith in Iowa City, Iowa. He preceded her in death on July 24, 1996.
Edna was employed at Oscar Mayer & Company of Davenport piror to her marriage.
Her memberships included Harmony Hills Baptist Church of Bettendorf, the Order of the Eastern Star where she was a 50-year member, Mohassan Caldron and Daughters of the Nile. She was a former member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem and the Mississippi Quilter’s Guild.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Barbara (Edgar) Wells of Davenport, Shelby (Stephen) Yankee of Blue Grass, Iowa and Ann (Ted Mell) Snodgrass of Inverness, Florida; her sons, Richard Enderle of Davenport, Ernest (Cheryl) Smith of Silvis, Illinois, Dennis (Annette) Smith of Davenport and Kent (Katherine) Smith of Inverness, Florida; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and her brothers, William Henderkott and Carl Henderkott, both of Bettendorf.
In addition to her husband, her parents; a daughter, Joyce Freeman; her sisters, Elsie Ohrberg, Viola Lopshire and Clara Smith; and her brother, Henry Henderkott, preceded her in death.
