Edward Fischer

Edward A. Fischer, 84, of Long Grove, passed away, Friday, April 22, 2016 at Genesis Medical Center East.

Memorial services celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Faith Lutheran Church in Eldridge.  Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Scott County Library Board or the charity of your choice.

Born on March 11, 1932 in Provost, Alberta, Canada, Ed was the son of Anton and Viola (Sengstock) Fischer.  He and his siblings were raised at Lutheran Children’s Home in Waverly, Iowa and various foster homes.  As an adult, Ed was adopted by his mother, Letha K. Risk of Oelwein, IA.  Ed married Nancy (Mosher) Douglas in 1987. He was previously married to his children’s mother, Mary Werner.

He graduated from Maynard Iowa High School in 1950 then went on to receive his B.A. from Wartburg College in 1954, and his M.A. from the University of Iowa.  Ed served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Ed taught school in Oran, IA, Lynd, MN and was a principal in Monona, IA before coming to North Scott High School where he was an administrator for 28 years, retiring in 1985.  He then sold securities for Waddell and Reed for 10 years.

His memberships included St. Paul Lutheran Church of Davenport and the American Legion.  He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and proud owner.

Those left to honor his memory include his beloved wife, Nancy; daughters, Lynne (Bill) Renzenberger of Cape Coral, FL, Kathy Fischer-Martin of Chapin, SC; son, Michael Fischer of Kansas City, MO; step-daughter, Jacque (Dave) Holloway of Manhattan, KS; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Harvey (Ginny) Fischer of Fayette, IA, Marie Thompson of Helena, MT, and Betty Boedigheimer of Salem, OR.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 7 siblings.
