Edward H. Holmes

Edward H. Holmes, 79, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died on Sunday, January 7, 2007 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport.
His funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf, Iowa. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, Iowa City Chapter.
He was born September 25, 1927 in Eddyville, Kentucky, the son of Leonard & Liza (Hilton) Holmes. On July 1, 1952, he was united in marriage to Mary L. Voss in Davenport.
Edward retired in 1978 as a Time Study Engineer for the J. I. Case Company where he had been employed for 37 years.
He enjoyed bowling and took special pride in his vegetable garden.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Mary; his sons, Michael (Paula Brown) Holmes of Madison, Wisconsin, Patrick (Kathy) Holmes of Davenport, Dwight (Michelle) Holmes of Davenport and Daniel Holmes; his grandchildren, Douglas, Jennifer, Jeffrey & Brandon; his sister, Beatrice Goetz of Bettendorf; and his beloved Lab, “Mr. Sam.”
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Virna James, Lois Barker, Anna Mae Schultz & Ruby Holmes; and his brothers, Willis, James & Olvin Holmes.
