Edwin L. Prizler, 94, of Bettendorf, died Friday, October 19, 2012 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, October 22, 2012 at Asbury United Methodist Church in Bettendorf. Entombment will be at the Davenport Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 21 st at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. An additional visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services on Monday at the church. Memorials may be made to Rainbow Riders Therapeutic Horseback Riding Center in Monmouth, IL in honor of Erika Cole, American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
Born on June 27, 1918 in Lone Tree, Iowa, he was the son of Joseph and Mary (Kanak) Prizler. In December of 1945 in Ohio, he married Arbutus “Boots” Bott. From this union came their two daughters, Linda and Joyce. Boots preceded him in death on November 19, 1972. Edwin married Lois Peterson in Woodhull, IL in 1975. She preceded him in death on July 26, 2000.
After graduating high school, Edwin attended the University of Iowa where he was the pitcher of the freshman baseball team and was on the rifle team. After a year of college he left to serve his country in the United States Army for five years during World War II. While in the army, he met his first wife, Boots, at a dance in Ohio.
Edwin worked for Shell Oil, retiring in 1979 after 39 years of faithful service. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Bettendorf VFW Post 9128, Hamilton Masonic Lodge #664, High Twelve Club 47, Plus 60 Club, and Mended Hearts Chapter 88.
Edwin was very competitive in sports. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Bears and New York Yankees fan. He was the national darts champion in Europe while in the service. Edwin enjoyed woodworking and golf. He was active in two retiree golf leagues and golfed until he was 91. Edwin was considered “Mr. Fix-It” and enjoyed fixing anything for anyone. He was proud of his Czechoslovakian heritage. Edwin thoroughly enjoyed life and loved his family.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughters and their husbands, Linda and Wayne Rankin of Monmouth, IL and Joyce and Robert Lee of Bettendorf; six grandchildren, Tiffany Cole, Traci Daniel, Brent Mekshes, Jennifer Lee, Jessica Lee and Matthew Lee; five great-granchildren, Drew and Erika Cole, Brittany and Abigail Daniel and Braley Gamez; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his two wives, one sister and three brothers.
