Edythe M. Smith, 96, a resident of Manor Care in Davenport, formerly of Eldridge, died Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Manor Care.
Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 3, 2013 at Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 2nd at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
Born on March 31, 1917 in Davenport, Edythe was the daughter of Fred G. and Hazel O. (Nunnally) Kallous. On April 16, 1938 in Waterloo, she married Elmer Smith. He preceded her in death on May 9, 1994.
Edythe and Elmer ran the C & E Café in Lost Nation for 10 years. She was a member of Union Presbyterian Church in Lost Nation. Edythe was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye Fan, enjoying their games on television. She loved to watch Jeopardy.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Sharon (David) Edleman of Kewanee, Lynne (Gary) Becker of Bloomington, MN and Deborah (Ken) Fordham of Eldridge; her son, Gerald Smith of Richfield, MN; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and her sister, Betty Hoots of Riverdale.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Dorothy Preisser.
