Eleanor Joan Larson, 87, a resident of Senior Star at Elmore Place in Davenport,
Iowa died on Friday, October 13, 2023, with her daughter by her side.
Family graveside services will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery in
Rockville, Indiana. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf, Iowa is
assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made
to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Joan was born in Rockville, Indiana on April 14, 1936, the daughter of
Elmer and Flora (Thomas) Cox. On December 14, 1955, she was united in
marriage to Max Berry in Indiana. They had 3 children, Mark, Eleanor, and Karen.
Max preceded her in death in 1969. On January 14, 1971, she was united in
marriage to Lee Love in Indiana and they had one daughter, Kelly. Lee
preceded her in death in 1984. In 1988, she was united in marriage to Robert L.
Larson in Davenport, Iowa.
Joan and her first husband, Max established, owned, and
operated “It’s the Berry’s” ice cream store in Bellmore, Indiana many years.
ago. She and her second husband, Lee established, owned and operated “Love’s
Western Wear” store in Bloomington, Indiana many years ago. Following Lee’s
death, she moved to Davenport, Iowa to be closer to her family.
Joan enjoyed the simple country life and passed that love onto her children,
raising all of them in an “Old McDonald’s Farm” type of setting near Raccoon
Lake in Belmore Indiana. Over the years, they all got to experience ponies, horses,
cows, chickens, bunnies, and peacocks Joan particularly enjoyed caring for and
riding horses both at home, and on Brown County trails in the Nashville, Indiana area. She
looked forward to attending the annual Covered Bridge Festival in Rockville and
especially enjoyed the time spent with her grandchildren.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Robert of Davenport Iowa,
her daughters, Eleanor Janette (Dick) Armbrester of Cary (New Hill), North
Carolina, Karen (Terry) Saverson of Tampa, Florida and Kelly (Brian) Love-
Sherrick of Bettendorf (Iowa); her grandchildren, Grant Sherrick, Ella Sherrick,
Sophie Sherrick, Lindsey (Kyle) Colson, Lauren Armbrester, Melissa Thatcher,
Meredith Berry, Megan Meissner, Michelle Berry-Rumble and Brianna Berry and
many great-grandchildren.
In addition to her first two husbands, she was preceded in death
by her son, Mark Berry; her sisters, Rozanne Berry, Imogene Gooch and Louise Michaels;
and her brother, Dale Cox.
