Elizabeth Jean Fladlien, 90, of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Thursday, July 30, 2015 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.

Funeral Services and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bettendorf.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.  A rosary will be recited at 3:00 p.m. Private committal services will be held at Rock Island National Cemetery.  Memorials can be made to the Bettendorf Firefighter’s Association Benevolent Fund or to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Jean was born in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of August and Ruth (Montgomery) Saelens.  She was raised in Buffalo, Iowa where she was united in marriage to Carl H. Fladlien on the 5th of September, 1942.  He preceded her in death on May 1, 2001.

A homemaker and mother, Jean was involved in many parish women’s groups.  She knew that being an American was a joyous blessing; no wonder her favorite holiday was the 4th of July.  Her collection of clowns, especially McDonald’s items and Mickey Mouse memorabilia were hobbies she enjoyed.  Most of all, Jean loved spending time with her wonderful neighbors and chatting on the phone.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Karen (Owen) Miller of Bettendorf, Dianna Fladlien of Davenport and Mike (Kathy) Fladlien of Muscatine, Iowa; her grandsons, Adam Mills & Jason (Molly) Fladlien; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Carl, Jean was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Donald Saelens.

Jean’s family would like to express special thanks to the caregivers of the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bickford Cottage of Davenport, and her amazing neighbors for all their care during this time.
