Elizabeth (Betty) O. Glynn passed away peacefully on Monday, November 11, 2024 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House surrounded by her loving family, who had just finished serenading her with a heartfelt (and slightly tone deaf) rendition of Que Sera Sera, a phrase she often shared whenever anyone found themselves worrying about the unknown.
Betty was born in Davenport on November 5, 1928, the second daughter of Nick and Paula (Wittig) Willers. She graduated from Davenport High School in 1946, and on April 10, 1948, she married Michael (Dick) R. Glynn at Our Lady of Lourdes in Bettendorf. She worked as an administrative assistant at the Rock Island Arsenal and did the bookkeeping for Glynn’s Tavern (she often helped at the lunch hour, too), all while raising ten children. She was a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan and a master card player. Those who knew her well had learned not to be fooled by her pleasant demeanor, for not only could she count cards, she took no mercy in a game, her favorite of which was pinochle. Betty was a remarkable woman, known for her strength, her cheerfulness, and her exceptional work ethic, which she passed on to her kids.
Those left to honor her memory are her children, Patrick Glynn, Peggy Glynn, Denis Glynn, Jack (Teresa) Glynn, Mary (Robert) Byram, Michael (Diane) Glynn, Paul (Lisa) Glynn, and Laura (Bill) Carlough, thirteen grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren, and brother, John Willers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael; children, Kathleen Glynn and David Glynn; daughter-in-law, Linda Glynn; and siblings, Hilda Whalen, Dorothy Plagmann, and Nicky Willers.
Visitation will be held at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 22nd, with a eulogy beginning at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 23rd at the funeral home.
