Ellen Louise (Amos) Hurt, 80, a resident of Davenport, passed away, December 10, 2014 at Manor Care on Locust Street in Davenport.
Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be at Oakdale Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Saturday. Memorials may be made to the Ellen Hurt Memorial Fund.
Born on October 10, 1934 in Putnum County, Missouri, Ellen was the daughter of Guy B. and Daisy M. (Lodgston) Amos. On April 22, 1953 in Davenport, she married Howard R. Hurt. He preceded her in death on March 13, 1976.
Ellen was a machine operator for the former Crescent Baking Company in Davenport for 34 years, retiring in 1991. She was a member of Freedom Christian Center in Davenport and the Bakers & Confectioners Union Local 36 in Davenport. Ellen enjoyed reading and her church.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Sandra (Dr. Joe) Dimino of Maysville, KY, Diannia Simms and Mary (Gary) Castel both of Davenport; eight grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren; sister, Valma (Ed) Burke of East Moline; brother, Lewis (Jean) Amos of Ottumwa; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Troy Smith; and brothers, Claud, Robert and Guy.
