Elmer Knapper Sr., a resident of Hackensack, Minnesota, currently residing in Elk River, Minnesota and formerly of Eldridge, Iowa passed away Monday, July 14, 2008 at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park, Davenport. Memorials may be made to Guardian Angels by the Lake, Elk River, Minnesota, the American Cancer Society or the Hackensack Senior Citizens Center, Hackensack, Minnesota.
Elmer was born February 12, 1917 in Scott County, Iowa, the son of Fred & Olena (Anderson) Knapper. He was united in marriage to Barbara O’Brien on April 18, 1942 in Kahoka, Missouri.
Elmer farmed on the family farm until his retirement in 1978. He and Barbara then moved to Hackensack, Minnesota where he spent his days on Pleasant Lake, fishing, gardening, and playing with his grandchildren. He was actively involved in the establishment of the Hackensack Senior Citizens Center. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Barbara Knapper; his daughters, Catherine (John Gubbings) Knapper of Bethesda, Maryland, Linda Knapper of Elk River, Minnesota, Teresa (Keith) Knapper-Harris of Las Vegas, Nevada, Karolyn (Greg) Knapper-Good of St. Augustine, Florida and Diane (John) Knapper-Brawley of Plymouth, Minnesota; his sons, Elmer Knapper Jr. of Eldridge, Iowa, Gary (Donna) Knapper of Donahue, Iowa and Thomas (Jackie) Knapper of Davenport; thirteen grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. He was dearly loved by all and adored by his grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his son, Edward Knapper, his granddaughter, Jane Knapper, his great-grandson, Keith Richards and his great-grandaughter, Alivia Sykes.
