Elmer Louis Schroeder Jr., 75, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Trinity Bettendorf, Bettendorf, Iowa.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the time of service at the funeral home. Private burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park, Davenport, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the Scott County Humane Society.
Elmer was born August 22, 1936 in Davenport the son of Elmer L. and June (Pieper) Schroeder Sr. He graduated from Davenport High School in 1954. He went on to serve in the Army National Guard from 1957 to 1960. He was united in marriage to Barbara Norpel on December 29, 1983 in Davenport.
Elmer worked for Iowa Illinois Gas and Electric/Mid American Energy for thirty eight years retiring as a crew leader in 1995.
He was one of the founding fathers of the Tractor Museum in Dyersville, Iowa. He enjoyed crossword and cryptic puzzles, bowling, trap shooting, fishing, the Chicago Bears, watching NASCAR, the History Channel and the Discovery Channel. He was an avid collector of toy tractors, comic books, trading cards, guns and was a great story teller.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Barbara, Bettendorf; his sons Michael ( Rhonda) Schroeder, Davenport and Tim Schroeder, Dixon, Iowa; his daughters, Lori (Jeff) Hebeler, Davenport and Lesley Lueders, Davenport; six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; his sister, Susan Faso, Las Vegas, Nevada; his brother, Richard (Rose) Schroeder, Davenport; his beloved shih tzu, Charlie and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Lynne Lueders and his sister, Janet Crandall.
